Unique Identification Authority of India

UIDAI is an Indian agency who is responsible for implementing the envisioned multi purpose National identity card or unique identity card project in India. It was established in February 2009. Agency will own and operate the unique identity databases.

Agency will aim to provide UID(Unique Identity Card) as a number not as a smart card. You got a letter at your door step that says its your UID and you can store it any where. The number is useless without biometric information if some one stole your UID don’t worry its useless for him/her. This is unique number which is used to confirm that you are citizen of republic of India
It based on some biometric information like eyes (irises) and all 10 fingerprints. It will record your Name, Age, Sex, Permanent and Present Address based on documents already accepted for age and address proof.
Labor ministry  has offered its verified EPFO ( Employment Provident Fund)database of 42 million citizens to agency as the first database to be integrated into the unique ID system

Once recorded, your ID can be established electronically. For Example you go for a shopping and after completion of shopping you go to Billing counter and you give your credit card if you have a UID ,shopkeeper ask you to put your finger on finger print reader and it will identify you. Its essential for every one to recognize as a Indian Citizen after some time may be it replaced all other Identity Proof.
